"Change is Scary!" by SimpliCandice on March 6, 2008, 2:37 pm, in category General
From Seth Godin's book Small is the New Big

"Why is it that the big opportunities, the really obvious chances that we get to improve our business and our careers, almost always pass us by?  Go back to what I said about change:  Big opportunities bring change, and change is painful.  As long as "opportunity" means change, and as long as "change" means pain, we will continue to miss our chances."

I read this passage in Godin's book at exactly the rig.....

"Essence of Niagara" by SimpliCandice on November 26, 2007, 12:21 pm, in category Entertaining Ideas
We carry, in the store, some locally made preserves, oils, jams, and vinegars.  Unfortunately they don't get as much attention as they deserve, or as I would like to give them.  And sometimes there are already so many storemade foods to choose from that the jars just don't get noticed.  They shouldn't be overlooked now that holiday season has arrived.  They make great appetizers and gifts.

Essence of Niagara is a new product we've started carrying.....

"One more survey question." by SimpliCandice on November 19, 2007, 9:32 am, in category General
Thank you all so much for your great feedback on the survey we've been doing.  I'm getting some really great information from it.  One thing that has become clear is that I really should have included one more question on the survey.

Please take some time and let me know what your perceptions are of the Plaza/location of Simplicity Meal Solutions.

Thanks for being very honest and staying involved in our business!

"Wait, the Barbecue can make you sick?" by SimpliCandice on June 25, 2007, 6:57 am, in category New Dishes
Now that the warm weather is here people are looking for ways to stay out of the kitchen and keep the oven off.  Many are turning to their outdoor barbecue.  It turns out that may not be the safest choice!  Research has found two carcinogenic compounds on grilled foods, PAH’s and HCA’s.

PAH’s are technically called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and they are created when the coal gets really smoky and smokes the food on your barbecue.  HCA.....

"More thoughts on Slow Food" by SimpliCandice on June 10, 2007, 10:43 pm, in category Hi I'm Candice and I own Simplicity
Tuesday night I will be enjoying fresh bread and artisan cheese at With the Grain Bakery when they host the next event for Slow Food Guelph, http://www.slowfoodguelph.ca.  It will be the fourth Slow Food event I attend.  I’ve only joined the movement this year, but I am really enjoying it.

Recently I hosted an event here at the store.  It was so much fun I want to do it again!  Hosting the dinner and serving food to friends, customer.....

"What do I do with my time?" by SimpliCandice on June 10, 2007, 10:32 pm, in category General
Well I started this blog to open communication with my customers and to let all of you know more about me and how I run my business.  It turns out those might have been some lofty goals.  Over the last two and a half years I have come to realize exactly how much work I can do in a specific amount of time.  I knew I was a busy girl when I decided I wanted to start a blog, but I thought to myself “How long does it really take to write a few words.”  Well.....

"Microwave Friendly" by SimpliCandice on April 19, 2006, 7:48 am, in category General
Did you know the aluminum foil containers that Simplicity packages the food in, are completely microwaveable?  Well, more like 75% microwaveable.  As long as the container is 1/3 or 1/4 full of food there will be no sparks in your microwave.  It’s a matter of density.  Aluminum is so thin and the food inside it is so dense that it will absorb all of the waves, including the ones that are being bounced off the metal.  The food does need to be vi.....

"Things are coming together!" by SimpliCandice on April 3, 2006, 8:06 am, in category General
Things are going very well with the new Co-op Student.  Breila was not able to make it in for the first three weeks of the work placement because she was ill, but she's better and back at work.  It is quite a dream to have somebody else in the store with me.

She arrives at 9:30 in the morning and stays until 12:00.  This has always been a difficult time of the day for me.  Setting up the store for the day and then getting started on the cooking u.....
